The word "biophilia" is rooted, by Greek definition, as "the love of living things" and describes the innate fondness humans have for the environment. Thus, biophilic design involves implementing natural elements in interior or exterior spaces. This practice is not only sustainable and ecologically sound in terms of structure and material use but also directly impacts human well-being. By fostering a sense of tranquility and vitality, biophilic design enhances quality of life and aesthetic appeal.
I chose to design a circular-shaped office building with an outdoor workspace that surrounds a beautiful Chinese banyan tree. Its dense, glossy, oval-shaped leaves spread tall over the round ceiling, allowing natural light and fresh air to flow in the open space at all times.
